CHS Academic Team

The Coweta Academic Team competes in the New Frontier Conference along with Wagoner, Cascia Hall, Miami, Glenpool and Caney Valley.  The varsity team had no returning starters from last year's all-senior squad that qualified for the State Tournament and featured two All-Staters.  Captain Jacob Usrey was the leading scorer on last year's junior varsity team and is now heading up the varsity along with Vinny Sayers, Jacob and Eli Smith, Justin Whalen and Tanner Kennon.  The junior varsity is led by Megan Cole, Ashley Stocking, Maddie Alburtus, Isaiah Potter, Koua Chang, Caelen Hendrix and Morgan Rich.

Play opened on September 15th with the varsity dropping close matches with Cascia Hall, Wagoner and Glenpool.  The Tigers picked up their first win of the season on September 22nd against Miami, before coming up short against Caney Valley and Cascia Hall.  Cascia Hall was last year's 4A state champion and Caney Valley was runner-up in 3A competition.  Despite the 1-5 record, the varsity is ringing up some impressive scores against formidable opponents with much more experience.  Leading scorer for the varsity is Jacob Usrey with 21 correct toss-up responses, followed by Vinny Sayers and Jacob Smith with 13 each. The junior varsity has a record of 3-2.  They are coached by Ariel Albright.

The Tigers travel to Caney Valley on Monday, September 29.  Competition will continue the following week at Cascia Hall.  After taking a break for the 5A District Seeding Tournament on October 13, the conference regular season wraps up at Miami on October 20th.  The following week, the Varsity Tournament will be held at Wagoner.  The Junior Varsity Tournament will be held at Cascia Hall on November 3rd.  The Varsity Acadmemic Team travels to Warner for the Connors State Brain Bowl on November 6th.  The 5A Area Tourney will be held in January with the top two teams advancing to the State Tournament in February.
